2009 Leaders Report

The Beaver Leaders have now settled into their 2nd year at 1st Britannia and they continue to enjoy their time here, they are completing a training weekend in November which will cover most of the modules needed to complete their training. The group has gone from strength to strength with current numbers at 25 on the register with a further 28 currently on the waiting list. Our aim is to try and getting an additional beaver group up and running to combat the problem with the huge amount of children waiting to start beavers. The Beavers have had a busy year and have enjoyed a visit to Legoland, a Mini Beast Hunt at Burbage Common and experienced their first sleepover at the District Camp. They have attended the St Georges Day and the Remembrance Day Parades.

They have completed their Fitness Challenge, Outdoor Challenge and Global Challenge as well as their Air Activites, explore and Nights away. With a large proportion now achieving their Chief Scouts Bronze awards before moving up to Cubs. In May 09 we started a link with the Langley Meadows Beaver Colony in British Columbia, Canada and it is hoped that we can make this special friendship add a new dimension to our activities. They have lots more planned for the coming year which includes a visit from the Guide Dogs for the Blind, Fox Coverts Camp Fire, and a trip to Gilwell Park. They will be completing their Friendship Challenge, Discovery Challenge as well as working to gain their Faith, Animal Friend and Health and Fitness Activity Badges.
